At least here in #Austria (can't say for sure in #Germany) you mark a books page by creating an "#Eselsohr", a dog ear.
The English #language version is a lot more fitting as a visual remark – there are at least dog ears that look like a dog ear.
But there is no "Eselsohr" that looks like a dog ear. Maybe you have to be an "Esel", an ass, to fold the corner of a books page, instead of using a bookmark. At least that's what every library thinks of you, when you keep creating dog ears in their books!
